TOMS RIVER, NJ—The map may have said “New Jersey,” but the atmosphere was boldly Bavarian as Arbors Care Center held its first annual Oktoberfest on Tuesday, October 13. The lively event, held from 1:30-3:30 pm, was an enormous success—drawing nearly 100 residents, relatives, friends and members of the community.
As always, the Arbors Care Center culinary staff created a sumptuous spread. The guests enjoyed authentic German delicacies including bratwurst, sauerbraten, homemade potato pancakes, red cabbage and other specialties. All of this followed by dessert showcasing mouthwatering Bavarian puff pastries and delicious Black Forest cake. Staff members reported receiving numerous compliments regarding the fare.
Live German music, provided by William Oust, decked out in classic lederhosen, kept the mood festive. Oust dazzled the crowd with his dexterity on the accordion as guests danced and sang along to traditional favorites. Four lucky winners took home door prizes—gift certificates to local restaurants.
The Oktoberfest celebration gave the public an opportunity to see the outstanding facility first hand, and a chance to meet and talk with staff members. Arbors Care Center, located in Toms River, NJ, is known for providing individually tailored skilled nursing and therapy services for geriatric, postoperative, orthopedic, cardiac and other patients under the direction of their doctor.
Josephine from Holiday City in Berkeley remarked, “I’m not sure which I enjoyed more—the food or the music!”
A couple from Manchester commented, “We haven’t had such wonderful food since I visited Germany. Count us in for next year! “What a wonderful afternoon, the food and entertainment were great, we can’t wait until the next event you have.”
“Events that bring the community together are extremely important. And we always seem to get a good turnout—people expect a good time, and they aren’t disappointed!” noted John Amory, Administrator of Arbors Care Center. He continued, “In addition to our care staff, we’re extremely proud of our chefs and kitchen team. They really made the day special.” Amory noted that the Oktoberfest celebration was just one of many regularly held special events at the center to actively involve family, friends and the community with residents. He also added that numerous Oktoberfest attendees had already signed up for the next event at Arbors Care Center, the Breakfast Bingo scheduled for November 10th.
